David O'Brien grew up in Western Australia and is a graduate of the Baptist College of W.A. (now called Vose Seminary). He has degrees in Science and Education from the University of W.A., and a Masters in Theology from Melbourne College of Divinity.
He is an ordained and accredited Minister of the Baptist Union of Victoria, and has served as Pastor in Collie and Craigie Baptist Churches in W.A. and was, for 14 years, the State Missions Director of the Baptist Union of Victoria. He has served here at Waverley since late 2005.
His passion is preaching and teaching the Word, and we benefit from inspirational and helpful preaching every week.
In 2019 the Church allowed David to be seconded to Global Interaction as Country Coordinator for Zambia and Zimbabwe, a position which involves regular visits to those countries in support of Church leaders.
Pastor Dave Harrison is married to Heather, and they have three beautiful adult daughters. In response to God's call, they moved out to Australia from Liverpool, England in August 2002.
Prior to commencing his role at Waverley Baptist Church, Dave was the Senior Associate Pastor at Kingston City Church, based in Clarinda, Victoria. Dave is involved in leading and preaching at our Sunday services and assists in overseeing Cell Groups, Pastoral Care and is focused on helping people achieve their God-given potential.
On a personal note coming from Liverpool, he is naturally a follower of Liverpool Football Club and a big fan of Melbourne Storm.
From January 1st, 2022 the two pastors will swap roles - Dave Harrison will take the mantle of Senior Pastor, while David O'Brien will move into the Co-Pastor role.
